Why Every Minute Counts

0–1 Hour
Critical Window
Transaction still pending in escrow. 1930 can halt it before settlement. Highest recovery rate.
Act Now
1–3 Hours
Still Possible
Funds may be in transit. Bank can place a hold. Beneficiary account flagging still effective.
Do It Now
3–24 Hours
Harder But Viable
Funds likely moved or withdrawn. FIR + cybercrime portal complaint essential. Recovery possible via court order.
File FIR
24h+
Difficult — Not Impossible
Financial recovery is harder, but identity protection, FIR, and legal recourse are still fully available and important.

What Is 1930?
What Do You Say?

Most victims know 1930 exists but freeze up when they actually call. Here's exactly what it is, what happens, and what to say word for word.

1930 is India's National Cyber Crime Helpline, operated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It connects directly to your state's cybercrime cell and can flag fraudulent UPI/bank transactions in real time to prevent settlement. It is free to call, available 24/7, and works across all states.
No. Calling 1930 is a victim complaint — you are reporting a crime against you. You will not be arrested, questioned as a suspect, or face any legal risk. The 1930 operator logs your complaint and coordinates with the relevant bank and cybercrime unit. A formal FIR is optional and separate.
Financial recovery becomes harder after 24 hours, but it is never too late to file. A complaint on cybercrime.gov.in and a police FIR remain valid and important for legal recourse, insurance claims, and preventing the scammer from targeting others. Always file — even weeks later.
Have these ready: your bank name and account number, the approximate amount lost, the date and time of the transaction, and the scammer's UPI ID or phone number if you have it. The UTR number (transaction reference) is very helpful but not mandatory. Our rescue wizard helps you collect all of this.
The operator creates a complaint ticket with a reference number — save this. The ticket is forwarded to your bank's fraud team and the cybercrime unit. Your bank may contact you for additional details. If the funds haven't been withdrawn, a hold can be placed within hours. Track your complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.

📋 What to say when they answer

"Hello, I am calling to report a cyber fraud. I lost ₹[amount] on [today's date] via [UPI/Net Banking/Card] from my [Bank Name] account. I need this transaction flagged immediately."

Stay Protected

Prevention Is the Best Rescue

Share these with family — especially parents, first-time smartphone users, and anyone who uses UPI. One tip shared can prevent the next scam.

Never Share OTP — Ever

No bank, government body, UPI app or delivery service will ever ask for your OTP over a call or message. If anyone asks, hang up immediately and block the number.

Never Install Remote Apps

AnyDesk, TeamViewer, QuickSupport — these give scammers complete control of your phone. No legitimate bank or tech support uses them. Refuse any such request instantly.

"Digital Arrest" Is Not Real

CBI, ED, police, customs — no government agency arrests you over a video call or demands you stay "locked" on screen. This is 100% a scam script. Hang up and call 1930.

Lock Your Aadhaar Biometrics

Visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in to lock your biometric authentication. This prevents fraudsters from taking loans or opening accounts in your name — takes under 2 minutes.

Job Offers Need No Upfront Fee

Part-time job scams, task-based earning schemes, and Telegram "investment" groups all follow the same pattern — small early payouts, then a request to deposit money. Always a scam.

Always Verify Helpline Numbers

Scammers buy ads so their fake numbers appear first on Google. Never call a helpline found in a search result — always go directly to the bank's official website or use the number on your card.

📤 Protect Someone You Love
Share This Guide With Your Family

Most scam victims are approached through someone they trust. One share on WhatsApp can prevent your parents, siblings or friends from becoming the next victim.

Most at risk: seniors unfamiliar with UPI, first-time smartphone users, job-seekers on Telegram/Instagram, and anyone who received an unexpected "prize" or "KYC update" message.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Cyber Fraud Victims in India Ask Most

Straight answers to the questions that matter right now — no jargon, no runaround.

Call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 immediately — if you act within the first 1–3 hours, NPCI can freeze the beneficiary account before funds are withdrawn. At the same time, file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in to create an official record. Even if more than 24 hours have passed, a formal FIR supports recovery through court order or bank dispute process. Never assume it is too late.
1930 is India's National Cyber Crime Helpline, run 24/7 by the Ministry of Home Affairs — free to call from anywhere in India. When you report, the operator creates a complaint ticket and alerts your bank and cybercrime cell to flag the fraudulent transaction. It is most effective within the first 1–3 hours when funds may still be in transit. You receive a complaint reference number to track your case at cybercrime.gov.in.
File online instantly at cybercrime.gov.in — India's National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal operated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. No police station visit needed to start. You'll need: date of fraud, amount, transaction ID or UTR number, and scammer details if available. A physical FIR at a cybercrime cell may be needed later for larger cases or court proceedings — our rescue guides generate a ready-to-submit FIR draft for you.
Digital arrest is a scam where fraudsters impersonate CBI, customs, police, or courier companies on a video call, claiming you are under investigation. They demand you stay on screen and pay to avoid arrest. This is completely fake — no Indian government agency arrests anyone via video call. If this is happening: end the call now, do not pay, screenshot the scammer's number as evidence, and report to cybercrime.gov.in and call 1930.
Take three steps right now: (1) Lock your Aadhaar biometric authentication at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in — this blocks fraudsters from using your Aadhaar to open bank accounts or take loans in your name. (2) File at cybercrime.gov.in and email UIDAI at uid@uidai.net.in. (3) Check your CIBIL credit report for unauthorised loans and watch your accounts for 30–90 days. If an OTP was shared, change your UPI PIN and net banking password immediately.
There is no fixed timeline — it depends on how quickly you reported. If a 1930 freeze is placed within hours, resolution can happen in days to a few weeks. Cases requiring court orders or RBI Ombudsman intervention can take months. Under RBI guidelines, banks must resolve fraud complaints within 90 days. Keeping your complaint reference number and following up in writing with your bank significantly improves outcomes.
Banks are obligated under RBI guidelines to assist fraud victims. If your bank is unresponsive: (1) Escalate in writing to the bank's Nodal Officer for Fraud — creates a paper trail. (2) File with the RBI Banking Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in — carries significant regulatory weight. (3) Include your cybercrime.gov.in complaint reference number in all bank communication. You can also approach the Banking Lokpal.
No — it is never too late to report. Under BNS 2023, there is no fixed deadline for filing a cybercrime FIR. While financial recovery is harder after 24 hours, a late complaint still builds the legal record needed for court proceedings, insurance claims, and RBI Ombudsman escalation. It also helps law enforcement track and stop the same fraudsters from victimising others. File at cybercrime.gov.in now, regardless of how long ago the scam occurred.
